Bits to Breakthroughs brings clinicians, data scientists and other stakeholders together to work on questions at the intersection of health, medicine and data.
The study-a-thon is an intensive, open-science collaboration built around specific research questions, complementary expertise and useful, reproducible outcomes. It is a space to share experience, work through challenges together and find ways forward.
Conclusions may change depending on whether a model is anchored to T0, T1, or T2.
The intervention itself provides a precise timestamp, while the true onset of an infection or complication may be much harder to capture.
Disease can evolve over months or years, with different timelines emerging from clinical, molecular, and patient perspectives.
Baseline definitions differ between cohorts, clinically meaningful events are often incompletely documented in routine data, and disease trajectories unfold across very different timescales.
The study-a-thon brings different areas of expertise into the same room and gives participants time to work through real research questions together.
Rather than simply presenting work, the format creates space for discussion, practical problem solving and the exchange of experience. The aim is to leave with a clearer understanding of the questions, the challenges and the work that can happen next.
Explore the programme, the scientific focus and see how the day comes together.
The day combines focused discussion, collaborative work and opportunities to share experience across disciplines.
FocusWhen does disease actually begin? How we represent time shapes the questions we ask, the models we build, and the conclusions we draw.
VenueA short walk from Bern central station, with free Wi-Fi and full wheelchair accessibility.
